I had a similar problem - no sound input device driver detected. I used pavucontrol, as explained in this Ask Ubuntu answer and it solved the problem:
- Install pavucontrol:
sudo apt-get install pavucontrol - Run:
pavucontrol - Go to the Input Devices tab
- Click the lock icon to unlock the channels
- Under Port, select the correct microphone (front or rear)
